PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) convened today to address the contentious issue of the non-allotment of reserved seats to the Sunni Ittehad Council.

Election Commissioner Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shamshad Khan also attended the hearing. Today’s hearing comes in response to the PHC’s earlier summons to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), seeking clarity on the issue.

A five-member larger bench, spearheaded by Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, presided over the hearing. Justices Ejaz Anwar, Atiq Shah, Shakeel Ahmed, and Arshad Ali are also part of the panel.

The heart of the matter lies in the alleged failure to allocate specific seats to the Sunni Ittehad Council. In the previous hearing, the PHC had issued an injunction on oath taking of appointees on the contentious reserved seats. Today, the court opted to extend the injunction until March 13.
